“Mitchell is a master of simplification, both in his artwork and in his ability to break down complex painting principles into clear, digestible lessons that artists at any level can understand … Mitchell takes the overwhelm out of learning the foundational principles.” – Julie deBoer, Artist & Founder of Mastrius, the global mentorship community for artists
UPCOMING AUTHOR EVENTS: FALL 2026
New Lessons in Landscape Painting
With the release of my latest (and third) book in October, I’ll be giving four author events: three online and one in person in the Seattle area. At each event, you’ll hear the answer to the question I’m asked most often: How does this new book differ from my previous books on landscape painting? After a brief tour of the new topics, exercises, and demonstrations in the book, and previewing some of the extraordinary painters whose work is featured, Mitchell will address one topic from the book in greater depth, so you can walk away with some practical strategies to apply to your own paintings. Each session will wrap up with audience Q&A on all things landscape painting.
Zoom links to come. All events are free.

Mitchell is a patient instructor whose dedication is apparent. He is very clear with critique … and does not lose sight of the magical quality that painting has and balances this well with technical knowledge to create an enjoyable and worthwhile experience. – participant, The Contemporary Impressionist Landscape, 2024
